A Consuming Experience

Blogging, internet, software, mobile, telecomms, gadgets, technology, media and digital rights from the perspective of a consumer / user, including reviews, rants and random thoughts. Aimed at intelligent non-geeks, who are all too often unnecessarily disenfranchised by excessive use of tech jargon, this blog aims to be informative and practical without being patronising. With guides, tutorials, tips - and the occasional ever so slightly naughty observation.

The Theatre Museum, in London's Covent Garden, is due to be closed by its owners, the Victoria & Albert Museum, on 7 January 2007 -an ill-considered move that will do disproportionate damage to the UK's unique theatre heritage. As a result of this closure, as the Guardians of the Theatre Museum put it, the identity of the nation’s collection of theatre materials will be wiped out. It's happening without a full public consultation, and despite the fact that in relation to what "consultation" there was the responses were almost unanimously against the closure. Derek Jacobi called the planned closure "an act of artistic vandalism".

Do consider signing a petition to save it, which has been organised by Guardians of the Theatre Museum - a group which includes such theatre luminaries as Alan Ayckbourn, Simon Callow, Judi Dench, David Hare, Derek Jacobi, Cameron Mackintosh, Lynn and Vanessa Redgrave, Donald Sinden and Zoë Wanamaker, and is supported by organisations like Equity, the Musicians' Union and the Stage Management Association and even by some MPs and Ken Livingstone.

No money or effort is requested, just your voice. They've had fewer than 7,000 signatures so far, which isn't much... This issue could do with a lot more publicity.
